Water pump failure pattern in EA211 engines, PSA

Public service announcement for fellow EA211 1.0 and 1.2 TSI owners. The electric water pump on these engines has a known failure pattern between 60000 and 90000 km, usually announced by a coolant smell or a temperature gauge that creeps up in traffic. Getting it checked proactively around the 55000 km mark can save you a roadside breakdown.

Confirmed on my Vento, replaced proactively at 62000 km after reading a similar warning, glad I did not wait for it to fail.
