The car
Škoda Kylaq Prestige+ AT 2026 model Deep Pearl Black New owner Location: Kerala (KL-07) Delivered: 31 August 2026 ~500 km driven so far
Why I bought it
After considering a few different options in this segment, I decided to go with the Kylaq Prestige+ AT.
A big part of the decision was also the deal I managed to get with the Onam offers and exchange bonus. It made the Kylaq a very attractive proposition for my budget, so it was difficult to say no.
More importantly, I wanted a compact SUV that felt premium, was enjoyable to drive, had a proper automatic gearbox rather than an AMT/CVT-oriented budget setup, and still made sense as an everyday family car.
The 6-speed torque converter AT was a big plus for me.
And getting the car home on the 31st — my birth date — made it even more special. 🖤
A little background
My family has been around cars for quite some time, and we've experienced quite a mix of both petrol and diesel cars over the years.
Some of the cars we've owned include a Hyundai Accent petrol, Ford Ikon 1.6 petrol, Toyota Qualis diesel, Ford Endeavour 2.5 XLT diesel, Tata Indica diesel, Hyundai i20 1.4 CRDi and Maruti Ciaz 1.3 DDiS.
Most of these cars gave us a good balance of performance and fuel efficiency, so moving to a modern 1.0-litre turbo-petrol is definitely an interesting change for us.
We've also been fans of the Škoda and Volkswagen Group for a long time. The Škoda Octavia and Superb have always been cars we've particularly admired, while on the Volkswagen side, cars like the Jetta, Passat, Phaeton and Touareg have always caught our attention.
So, when choosing a new-generation car for today's Indian conditions, we wanted something practical and well-suited to India without compromising too much on the driving experience, engineering and features that we associate with the Volkswagen Group.
That's one of the things that made the Kylaq particularly interesting to us.
I'm really curious to see how this new-generation 1.0 TSI performs in real-world conditions and whether it can give us the same balance of performance, practicality and fuel efficiency that we've been used to.
So, let's see how the Kylaq does! 😄
