Should One buy Extended Warranty and Service Packages?

Hey everyone,

I just had my car's first 5,000 KM service done. One of the reps suggested I get an extra 2-year warranty on top of the standard 4-year one, which would cost about 22,000, and a 4-year service package for 45k.
This is my first German and automatic car.
What do you all think? I just don't want to get upsold.

It completely depends on what you intend to do with your car. If yoh plan to modify/tune your car in future, please don't opt for it as most of the lubes and oils required after mods may be different from what SC provides. 

But if you want to keep it stock, you may consider. Can you share what all is covered in the service package?

1.  1. All services as per the service plan
2 . Basic inspection
3 . Engine oil change+oil change 
4 . Oil filter replacement including drain plug and washer
5.  Additional inspection
6.  Air/pollen/fuel filter replacement
7.  Brake fluid change
8.  Scanning 
9.  Washing and cleaning
10.  Service labor charges
11.  Including GST
12.  V-belt replace
13.  ATF + Filter replace                           
14.  Spark plugs change

I got the svp while buying my virtus . I was a hard negotiation where they gave the first two years free . I had to buy the next 2 @10k(17k quoted at first) . What my research with fell vw virtus friends says: 
Service cost is 9-10k (1) ; 11-12k(2), 17-20k(3rd and 4th) .  I felt 10k for all is a good negotiation and went for it.  
Note, they will give you 4 coupons , which you need to keep safe and mind the date , if you overshoot the date by even a day, its null and void. 
Engine extended warranty is must , you can ignore that in insurance .

Go ahead with the extended warranty and buy the service pack, just short of one year from purchase price.

I got the extended warranty and SVP(Service Value Plan) with my Polo when I bought it and here is my experience: 

1. My batch came with faulty ABS sensors and over the first 3 years all 4 of them failed one by one and they were replaced for free. It's been more than 2 years now since the last one was changed and everything is good so far with the ABS. 
2. I hit a huge pot hole in the 3nd year which resulted in my front left tyre getting a bubble and while I had just missed the warranty claim on the tyre, what I got was the entire steering rack changed in the next annual service as there were some issues with it. This was replaced under the extended warranty plan. 
3. I got a few parts free with my SVP which was an added bonus. I got 2 sets of wipers(Consumed 1 set so far), A battery that I changed this year (It's been 5 years since I got the car) and a set of break pads and rotors(Which I need to claim before March 27)

With the above experiences, I would say the total cost of paying around 30-40k while buying the car for this extended warranty and SVP was totally worth it as the total cost of all the things I recieved is well over a lakh at this point. 

The only point I would stress is to listen to what @gauravdhakate has commented about buying the SVP just a week before your car turns 1 year because you SVP will end 4 years later from that date. In my case, I had a good offer while buying and I didn't know that if I bought at the end of the year, the plan would extended.
